Description
Your dirt bike’s factory airbox system was designed for hot, dry, dusty air. When riding in snow, your air filter will get wet and freeze, causing a rich fuel mixture, hindering performance and risking engine damage by overfuelling. Enhance your bike’s performance, with improved throttle response with a less restrictive cold-air intake system that is water resistant and light weight. The #1 choice for a no-nonsense, tried-and-true, reliably powder-proof snowbike intake solution.
One of the most vital additions to any snowbike! (Along with a thermostat)
- Functionally, very similar to our original intake system. The main difference is that, in the event there is any oily sludge buildup or a tipover, it is not reentering the engine via the intake
- Simpler and cleaner install on 2019-up KTM/Husky and other models
- Filter is compact, with high-quality filtration element and a robust aluminum & rubber body
- Its purpose is to stop snow/ice/dirt/mud from collecting and plugging your breather tube (which could result in pressure buildup and major oil leaks through the valve cover seal), while ensuring your valvetrain can still vent any positive pressure
- Attach it to the end of the PCV vent breather tube (a rubber line usually coming off the top of your head at/near the valve cover) with the provided clamp, and secure (typically to the frame) with the zip tie. Make sure it is the lowest point of the line, as any vented oil-water mixture can’t be allowed to accumulate as it may still freeze. Make sure the filter is not in direct snow spray (you can cut the breather line if you need to. the filter is beneficial to run all year round).
This replaces the old strategy for crankcase ventilation of direct connection to the air boot. The only real “con” is that it’s a different paradigm than dirtbikers may be used to.
UPDATED: we’re using custom purpose-designed and optimized air boots instead of off-the-shelf adapters! Better fit and improved airflow!
This intake system mounts right up where your stock airbox was, with a laser cut aluminum pod, mounts for your PCV system and air temperature sensor, all necessary mounting hardware, and a custom dual-layer Outerwear prefilter, made in the USA by “Outerwear”
Please note that on some bikes, modifications to (and possible cutting of) the airbox is needed to ensure optimal snow evacuation and fit (including most newer KTMs (but not Huskys) and older Japanese bikes). We recommend buying a spare set of “jobber” airbox plastics (typically adds like $40 to your build) if you want to keep your OEM ones pristine for summer
